Dasmariñas City Mayor Jenny Barzaga took her oath as the representative of Cavite's 4th congressional district on Tuesday, September 1, during the House of Representatives' plenary session.

House Speaker Faustino "Bojie" Dy III administered the oath, two days after Barzaga won the special election for the seat in a landslide.

A seat left vacant by expulsion

The district had been without a representative since June, when the House expelled her son, Francisco "Kiko" Barzaga, for unruly behavior. The 27-year-old, who was elected to Congress in 2025, had been suspended twice before over social media posts making accusations against fellow lawmakers and top government officials.

A special election was then held to fill the vacancy.

Family's hold on Dasmariñas

Barzaga's victory extends her family's long political presence in Dasmariñas. Her husband, Elpidio "Pidi" Barzaga Jr., first became mayor of the city in 1998.

The new representative has not yet announced her legislative priorities.
