Filipino pop groups BINI and SB19 have submitted entries for consideration at the 69th Grammy Awards, the groups announced on social media on Monday, October 12.
BINI, known as the "Nation's Girl Group," submitted entries in three categories: Best New Artist, Best Asian Pop Music Performance for "Unang Kilig," and Best Song Written for Visual Media for "A Parallel World." The group posted its entries with the message "For Your Grammy Consideration."
SB19, dubbed the "Kings of P-pop," submitted "Visa" for Best Asian Pop Music Performance and "Lawless" for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. "From the Philippines to the world, thank you for believing in SB19," the group wrote.
A submission does not guarantee a nomination. Recording Academy voting members will decide the final nominees. The 69th Grammy Awards will be held on February 7, 2027.
A new category for Asian pop
Best Asian Pop Music Performance is one of five new categories the Recording Academy announced in June. It covers pop recordings from, or widely recognized in, Asian markets, including K-pop, J-pop, C-pop and P-pop, that make meaningful use of one or more Asian languages. The category gives Filipino acts a clearer path to Grammy recognition.
Milestone years
Both groups are coming off landmark years. In April, BINI became the first homegrown Filipino act to perform at Coachella, and later completed the North American leg of its "Signals World Tour." In July, SB19 became the first homegrown Filipino act to perform at Lollapalooza.
